Since 2022, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) has been allocated $545 million in Betterment funding to enhance the resilience of Queensland’s state and national road network. This investment sits above and beyond the cost of restoring essential public assets after natural disasters, reflecting a strategic shift toward long term resilience rather than repeated reactive repairs.
,
The funding focuses on works such as raising low lying roads, sealing gravel sections, constructing concrete causeways and stabilising landslip prone areas to reduce flood-related closures and cut long-term repair costs. The result is a safer, more reliable road network that supports Queenslanders before, during and after natural disasters.
Chapter Advisory played a central role in delivering DTMR’s Betterment Program, acting as the key interface between the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA), DTMR’s executive leadership and project teams across the state.
From the earliest stages of each project, the team provided guidance on eligibility, assessed proposed treatments and supported districts in selecting the most resilient and cost-effective options through multi-criteria analysis and value-for-money evaluations.
Throughout delivery, Chapter Advisory coordinated progress reporting across Queensland, ensuring consistent communication between district offices, QRA and DTMR’s executive team.
This included oversight of monthly reporting, milestone tracking and stakeholder engagement, which helped maintain program momentum and supported the successful implementation of Betterment works statewide.
